loopMIT is a dedicated team of undergraduate students from various fields of engineering working on designing , developing and building a sub scale prototype transport vehicle known as the Hyperloop Pod to partake in the “SpaceX Hyperloop pod design competition” ,where a number of student teams from across the world participate to demonstrate the technical feasibility of various aspects of the Hyperloop concept . We aim to be the first Asian team to enter the competition with a levitating pod.

A Hyperloop is a mode of passenger and freight transportation, used to describe an open-source vacuum tube train design released by a joint team from Tesla and SpaceX. Hyperloop is a sealed tube or system of tubes through which a pod may travel free of air resistance or friction conveying people or objects at high speeds efficiently, drastically reducing travel times over medium-range distances.

Materials are integral part of any project.Selection of right material is necessary for converting the design into efficient and sustainable product. In Composite subsystem we aim to use high strength/weight material for the shell and frame of the pod in order achieve high speed by combating air resistance.

This subsystem is going to control the motion of the pod. It looks after the propulsion, stability and suspension of the pod. It main aim is to eliminate the oscillations to give smooth ride for the passengers.

  • Karthik Reddy
The goal of the subsystem to is create a aerodynamically efficient pod to minimize losses due to air resistance. It deals with designing the bodywork & designing the framework.

With Levitation we aim to incorporate cutting edge technologies in magnetic fields and their interactions with conductors. We wish to eliminate rolling friction by having the pod 'hover' and attain remarkable speeds with maximum efficiency!

The propulsion subsystem deals with studies and simulations for various motor designs to optimize for Speed and performance. These simulations are done on softwares which use electromagnetic field solvers that allow us to conduct what-if experiments and study the effects of the design parameter variations on the behaviour of the entire system

Electronics subsystem deals with the entire electrical and electronic components going into the pod, mainly the battery management system, main computer control unit, motor controller, wiring harness and other sensing and automation systems.

  • Kunal Thadani
  • Rahul Arutla
  • Meghashyam Valasa
The role of the management subsystem is to create a work environment that supports innovative thinking. It comprises of Finances and sponsorships, Media management and web development, Human resources and safety management. It brings together all the other factions of the team to create a Hyperloop pod that is efficient and safe.

Hyperloop- The What, Why and How

Imagine that you have just got that dream job you always wanted. But, while you are comfortably settled in Pune, this job would require you to relocate to Mumbai – one of the most expensive cities in India. Not quite ideal? But what if I told you that you could wake up in your home in Pune, reach your office in Bombay, and travel back home for the night? Seems unrealistic? The Hyperloop is here to change that.
